Allison Russell (known to Door County audiences as part of hometown favorite duo Birds of Chicago) is a poet, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. On her new album Outside Child, Russell unpacks her abusive childhood in searing detail, detailing not only her own suffering but the deep joy she’s found on the other side. On Outside Child—nominated for three Grammys and named #4 on NPR’s Top Albums of 2021—Russell explores “ her own saga of abuse, escape and recovery in a song cycle as enriched by its multifaceted musical vocabulary as by her poetic lyrics” (NPR).
