Preservation Hall Jazz Band has held the torch of New Orleans music aloft for more than 50 years, creating music that exemplifies the Crescent City’s inimitable spirit and joie de vivre. On their most recent release, So It Is, PHJB redefines what New Orleans music means today by tapping into a sonic continuum that stretches back to the city’s Afro-Cuban roots and forward to cutting-edge artists like Stevie Wonder and the Black Keys. Today, this seven-piece band has members whose ages span nearly 60 years, fully embodying their mission: to pass on a joyful musical tradition while continually revitalizing it with new blood and fresh ideas.
“Loud, funky and brash, it’s enough to blow the roof off the old place.” – The Guardian
