With five Grammy wins and more than 20 acclaimed studio albums, Blues Hall of Famer Robert Cray has been blurring the lines between roots, blues, soul, and R&B for the past four decades. On his latest album That’s What I Heard , Cray celebrates the music of Curtis Mayfield, Bobby “Blue” Bland, and The Sensational Nightingales (with a few of his own songs mixed in for good measure). Growing up in the Northwest United States, Robert Cray listened to the gospel of the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi, Bobby Bland’s soul, Jimi Hendrix’s rock guitar and the Beatles’ pop sounds. He brings all those influences into play in his current work, leading Guitar Player Magazine to rave, “Robert Cray is not only making music, he’s making history.”
“Funky, cool, and full of life.” - Rock & Blues Muse
