“Blues is the root of all music; it’s the mother of all music. If you don’t like the blues, you probably don’t like your mama.” - Bobby Rush
Two-time Grammy winning Blues Hall of Famer Bobby Rush is one of the preeminent bluesmen in the world, one of the last living links to the music’s glorious past, and an inspiration for its future stars. Americana Highways calls Rush “a bluesman on the top of his game.” At 83 years old, Rush’s busy schedule includes headlining European festivals with his band and solo programs at venues including Jazz at Lincoln Center, recording a new album, and winning a second Grammy. He’s unapologetically himself and uninterested in slowing down, quipping, “Even if you don’t like me, you’re still going to say, ‘I don’t like Bobby Rush, but, damn, he’s good.’”
“Phil Cook is a lightning bolt. He is a teacher and captor of music. He carries it within him at all times. No one has taught me more about music in my life than him. He is one of the great performers of our age ... as time passes more and more people will find that out. I'm excited every time someone gets to discover Phil’s genius—a thing I've had the good fortune of knowing all my life.” —Justin Vernon, Bon Iver
Wisconsin-born, North Carolina-based musical polyglot Phil Cook will open the show, singing and playing songs from his two releases Southland Mission and People Are My Drug.
